Shots fired after car allegedly hits police officer in Sydney

Shots were fired after a car allegedly hit a police officer in an attempt to avoid a random breath test in Sydney's north-west.

Officers were conducting the testing on Wicks Road in Ryde about 10pm yesterday when a black Audi sedan allegedly tried to evade the site.

The car was, however, stopped on the nearby Coxs Road and police began conducting checks.

The sedan then allegedly drove at officers, forcing police to discharge a single round at the windshield before it drove away.

An officer suffered an injury to his leg and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.

Following investigations, police tracked the sedan to a home in Melrose Park and seized it for forensic examination.

"Police spoke with two men and a woman at the home, who are assisting police with their inquiries," police said in a statement.
