The teal independents look set to snare their first seat in NSW parliament, with the former Liberal seat of Pittwater on Sydney's Northern Beaches within reach.

The Liberals have only lost Pittwater once in the last half century, but it looks like it's about to turn from blue to teal.

Jacqui Scruby has all but claimed victory in yesterday's byelection after a 6 per cent swing towards her.

The teal candidate says she is confident once pre-polling votes are counted she will be victorious over Liberal candidate and former Northern Beaches deputy mayor Georgia Ryburn.

The Liberals campaign for the seat was impacted by the party's disastrous failure to nominate Northern Beaches candidates in time for the recent council elections.

But in some positive news for the Liberals, they have held on to the two other seats in yesterday's byelections for Epping and Hornsby.
