Poll: Majority of Sydney residents want new migrants to live in regional NSW

A new poll has revealed two-thirds of Sydneysiders believe new migrants should be sent to live in regional NSW.

The ReachTel poll shows congestion and overcrowding are key issues for voters, with 50 percent opposed to more development in the harbour city.

It comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison signals plans to slow the intake of temporary migrants.

Under the proposed plan, Mr Morrison will encourage them to settle in regional Australia.

Regional areas are currently in the grips of a nationwide tradie shortage, with bosses struggling to find skilled employees.

The Morrison government is also promising to reform vocational and tech education, to encourage kids into a trade.

The government has also offered to pay off the debts of thousands of students created by unethical educational operators.
