'Unlucky' driver disqualified until the year 3001

Banned from driving until 3001. That's not a typo... 3001.

It means Leonard Davie won't get his licence back under he's 1046 years old.

And to top it all off Davie is back in trouble with the law.

The 62-year-old is due to face court next month for - you guessed it - driving while disqualified.

He was stopped by police at mobile random breath test at Campbelltown, in Sydney's south-west, earlier this month.

While the breath test came back clear, he was unable to hand over his licence.

It was then police discovered that he had held a West Australian driver's licence, but that expired in 1983.

Further checks showed his licence was cancelled in March 1988 until December 3001.

When we caught up with Mr Davie the other day, he was surprised we were interested in his story.

"How did you get disqualified until 3001?," I asked him.

"Accumulation of points," he grumbled.

Mr Davie says he's never had a road accident in his life.

He maintains he's a victim of WA's mandatory sentencing laws, which banned him for the extraordinary term after three drink driving offences.

"It means you haven't been able to drive in 30 years and you got picked up here?" I asked.

"Once," he replied.

"The one time you drive; you got picked up," I countered.

"Yeah."

"You've got to say that's pretty unlucky?," I persevered.

"Very unlucky," came his reply.

So now the unlucky Mr Davie is heading to Campbelltown Court - and don't worry, 9NEWS will be there.
