Sydney's M4 Highway reopened after out-of-control grass fire closes lanes

Part of the M4 highway in Sydney has been reopened after a grass fire at Erskine Park.

Lanes in both directions were closed for more than an hour between Mamre Road and Wallgraves Road, but were opened up about 1:15pm.

Two citybound lanes are still closed while emergency services and traffic crews remain at the scene.

The fire was seen burning in the grassland next to the Woolworths distribution centre at Minchinbury.

Citybound motorists were told to leave the motorway at Mamre Road at Orchard Hills and use the Great Western Highway instead.

Delays had built up, with drivers urged to allow extra travel time.

Fire and Rescue NSW is still attempting to bring the small fire under control.

The fire is currently at 'advice' level.

It comes after Sydney was placed under a total fire ban today, as warm weather and high winds rock the state.
