Sydney jihadi brothers were top students at GPS school

Two brothers, aged 16 and 17, stopped from leaving Sydney Airport under suspicion they were heading to fight in the Middle East were prominent students at the selective Sydney Boys High public school.
Both boys excelled in sport and the older brother was involved in debating and was gifted academically at the school, which is one of eight Great Public Schools in Sydney, the Daily Telegraph reports.
They attended a popular mosque and showed no outward signs of radicalisation but the AFP reportedly found they had listened to online sermons delivered by a radical sheikh and had also posted compromising Facebook comments about Syria.
Police also allegedly retrieved a deleted file coaching the boys on how to beat questioning by customs officials, which included tips like being able to identify popular tourist attractions within Turkey.
Customs officials at Sydney Airport stopped the brothers on March 6 and prevented from boarding a plane to Kuala Lumpur, from where they planned to fly to Turkey.
The officials referred the boys to the terrorism unit after a bag search.
After being detained, the brothers were handed over to their parents at their home in Sydney's southwest.
