L-plater crashes into Sydney home after allegedly going double the speed limit

A 19-year-old learner driver who allegedly drove at double the speed limit and crashed into a home in Sydneyhas been fined $4324.

Highway patrol officers allegedly clocked the teenager on Nottinghill Road in Regents Park just after 5pm yesterday.

Police said the driver was allegedly driving at 107 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.

The officers turned around to chase the driver's SUV, but they found the car had left the road.

The car had crashed into a fence and the garage of a home.

An 86-year-old woman in the home was not injured, but the garage and house were substantially damaged.

The 19-year-old was arrested at the scene and tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

He was fined for speeding more than 45 km/h over the limit, driving alone on his L plates, and not displaying the plates on the car.

He was fined $4324 and given eight demerit points.

His license has been suspended for six months.
