Aussie city pays twice as much for parking as US, study shows
New research commissioned by the NRMA has found parking fees in Australia's biggest capital cities to be far in excess of what is paid in the US.
The NRMA published the findings in its Parkin' Mad report, calling on action to be taken to stop Australians getting gouged for having to commute by road.
They compared average all-day parking fees in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, to cities in the US of roughly equivalent size - San Diego, Boston, San Francisco, and Seattle.

All values have been converted from US dollars to Australian.
7. Seattle
Seattle was the cheapest of the ranked cities, with average all-day parking costing $36.60.
6. San Diego
San Diego was a little more expensive, averaging $43 a day.
5. San Francisco
Average all-day parking in San Francisco cost $39.80.
4. Boston
Boston was the most expensive of the US cities, with all-day parking averaging $54.10.
And now we pop down under.
3. Brisbane
The cheapest of the Australian cities in the study, Brisbane, had an average parking cost of $60.45 a day.
2. Melbourne
Melbourne was next, with a $62.05 average.
Guess where that leaves.
1. Sydney
All-day parking in Sydney costs a whopping $81.15 a day on average.
That's more than double Seattle, the city we started with.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said it was a sign the system was broken.
"Sydney's daily parking fees are hitting ridiculous heights at a time when family budgets are stretched and Sydneysiders can afford it least," he said.
