Sydney Harbour Tunnel closed in both directions due to car on fire

Traffic chaos continues around the Sydney Harbour Tunnel after a car burst into flames during rush hour.

Motorist are experiencing heavy delays after both south and northbound lanes were closed.

Emergency sprinklers inside the tunnel were triggered by smoke from the vehicle, yet did not stop the flames.

Firefighters from Neutral Bay Fire Station were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

The driver was able to remove themselves from the vehicle and sustained no injuries.

Police are currently on the scene directing traffic which is still extremely heavy.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use the Sydney Harbour Bridge instead.
