In pictures: Sydney Fish Market's gargantuan Christmas marathon
Christmas in Australia has its own traditions - Paul Kelly's "How To Make Gravy", pavlova, and prawns. Lots of prawns.
The Sydney Fish Market is doing its part to fill demand for the latter, currently partway through its 36-hour pre-Christmas selling marathon.
The market opened its doors at 5am yesterday, December 23, and will only close them again at 5pm today, Christmas Eve.
On its website, the market laid out some eye-opening statistics.
More than 100,000 customers are expected throughout the 36 hours.
Those 100,000 people are expected to snap up 350 tons of seafood.
According to the Fish Market, that's expected to include 120 tons of prawns, and 70,000 dozen oysters.
This year, 2024, marks the 29th anniversary of the Christmas selling marathon.
The market advises that the quietest times to visit are between 5am-9am and 3pm-6pm on December 23, and between 12am-5am on December 24.
So if you've not gone yet - get ready for the crowds.
Historically, the second day of selling is busier than the first.
People line up to pick out their Christmas seafood.
People are urged to allow for extra travel and shopping time due to the crowds.
