It has taken only minutes for a ferocious fire to tear through a home in Sydney’s west, devastating a mum and her four children.

The woman, Lisa, lost her husband last year – the father of the children, who are aged from one to ten.

The youngest, a girl, turns two next week.

The family was inside their Chester Hill house yesterday with a friend when a blaze broke out in the garage.

Fortunately, they escaped unharmed – however emergency services personnel later discovered the family’s pet cat had died in the blaze.

They have lived in the house for the past decade, however do not have insurance.

A fundraising page has now been set up to help the family, which readers can access here.

A NSW Fire & Rescue spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances and said the fire was a “tragedy” for the family.
