Man charged after alleged attempted carjacking in Cronulla

A man has been charged after an alleged attempted carjacking involving a pair of scissors in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.

The incident occurred on Croydon Street in Cronulla, about 3.15pm yesterday.

Upon arrival, officers were told a man allegedly demanded the keys from two people getting into a car before fleeing the scene.

9News obtained vision of the moment a good Samaritan confronted the alleged offender.

A short time later, police arrested a 20-year-old man, and during a search, a pair of scissors were allegedly found.

Police said no-one was injured.

The 20-year-old man was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with a string of offences.

The charges include, aggravated assault with intent to take or drive a motor vehicle while armed with weapon, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place and behave in an offensive manner in or near a public place or school.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
