Man attacked with hammer in Sydney home invasion

A man has been attacked with a hammer during a home invasion in Sydney's west overnight.

Police said three men, one armed with a hammer, entered a home in Whalan, near Mt Druitt, around 8.30pm yesterday and attacked the 39-year-old man, injuring his arms and hand.

The trio left in a vehicle and the injured man called police.

"A crime scene was established, and inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident," police said in a statement.

"Investigators are now searching for three men described only as having Pacific Islander/Maori appearance."

The 39-year-old was taken hospital.
