Bay Run flasher Andrew Grant jailed for eight months

A sexual predator who terrorised female joggers along the popular Bay Run in Sydney’s inner west has been sentenced to at least eight months jail.

Andrew James Grant, 28, whose has become a father while in custody, pleaded guilty to charges of stalking, intimidation and indecent assault.

In January and February this year, Grant confronted six different women during the day and at night.

In each case he would ask them to have sexual intercourse, he also flashed himself and in one incident tried to touch one of his victims.

A photograph of Grant was released by police and within days he was arrested at his Freshwater apartment. In a search of the premises officers located rope, a balaclava and a muzzle.

Today in court police claimed Grant created "enormous fear in the community and people had grave concerns they were not safe exercising alone on the Bay Run".

In an unexpected move Grant addressed the court as he was about to be sentenced.

He said he was deeply remorseful for his action and that he had “ failed as a member of the community and as a man".

He went on: “I have imposed my deluded thoughts on innocent people and I want to apologies to the victims and the wider community. I am truly sorry.”

In sentencing Magistrate Schurr said there had been an escalation in Grant’s behaviour and she praised the victims coming forward to police protect themselves and the rest of the community.

Grant was sentenced to minimum eight months jail but with time served he could be out by November.

Grant has also been placed on three year good behaviour bond and to undergo sexual assault counselling.
