Police have released images of four men they want to identify after pot plants were thrown at mounted officers during an anti-lockdown protest in Sydney at the weekend.

Thousands of protesters gathered unlawfully in the CBD to oppose the city's lockdown on Saturday.

NSW Police said officers on horseback came to the aid of another officer during the protest near Town Hall on George Street, when they were struck by "projectiles" including pot plants, between 1pm and 2pm.
