Worker dies in crash at Byerwen coal mine

A worker has died in a crash at a coal mine in Suttor in Queensland's Bowen Basin.

Emergency services were called to Byerwen mine around 1.10pm today after an industrial traffic incident.

"A person was located with critical injuries and was declared deceased at the scene," police said in a statement.

"There is no further information available at this time."

The Forensic Crash Unit will assist Resources Safety and Health Queensland with their investigations.

The incident is the second fatality to occur at Byerwen mine this month.

Operators QCoal confirmed Chris Schloss died at the site in an "incident" on August 3.

"Our thoughts are with Chris' wife Amanda, his children and all their family at this terrible time," QCoal group executive James Black said in a statement.
