Suspicious white powder delivered to Indonesian consulates across Australia

Indonesian consulates in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne have been sent white powder.

The Australian Federal Police has responded to a chemical scare in Sydney's south after a woman at the Indonesian consulate in Maroubra opened an envelope with a suspicious white powder inside.

HAZMAT crews attended the scene. 

A man was assessed at the scene by paramedics, but did not require treatment, and the item in question has been taken away for further examination, NSW police said.

Suspicious substances were also sent to the consulates in Perth and Albert Park, Melbourne.

"The substance at the Perth and Melbourne locations have been deemed non-hazardous and the substance at Sydney has been taken away for further testing," an AFP spokeswoman said.

Five trucks from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and a HAZMAT team attended the scene in Melbourne but the substance was deemed non-suspicious.

Indonesian consulates in Australia were also targeted before and after the executions of Bali Nine drug smugglers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

A woman threw red paint-filled balloons at the Sydney consulate in March, before the men died.

Police say she used the balloons to splatter paint on the footpath to apparently make it look like blood stains.

Small protests happened outside the Darwin consulate and Indonesian embassy in Canberra in the hours after the men were executed.
