Police officer faces 20 years in prison after robbery allegations

The moment heavily armed police stopped the alleged attempted robbery of $300,000 on a busy Cabramatta street could see suspended police officer Ashur Oshana spend 20 years in jail.

A decorated officer, Senior Constable Oshana was under suspension for allegedly using steroids when he was arrested. 

The alleged attempted robbery took place outside Sonny Tran’s real estate agency yesterday afternoon.

The targets were allegedly the owners of a neighbouring money transfer business.

Mr Tran’s security cameras captured the owners leaving their store.

Just off-camera, they are allegedly confronted, which is when the police rush in.

Officers tackle two men to the ground, using their knees to subdue them.

It is understood police had been lying in wait after a tip-off.

Mr Tran also captured the action on his mobile phone and tablet.

This morning Sen. Const. Oshana and two other men, Jamal Tashman and Phillip Truong, faced court charged with armed robbery and stealing number plates.

Sen. Const. Oshana and his two co-accused chose not to leave the cells for their brief appearance at Liverpool Court.

All three are expected to make a bail application on Thursday.
