Suspected human remains found on a beach near a popular wedding venue on Sydney's lower north shore have been revealed to be animal bones.

The father of a bride made the discovery on Saturday when he took a walk along the beach below Athol Hall in Mosman during a break in wedding rehearsals.

Police have since investigated the findings and have confirmed the remains are not human.

"Bones located in Sydney Harbour at the weekend are not human remains," a statement from NSW Police said.

"Officers were assisted by Police Divers in the collection of a number of bones.

"The bones were taken for forensic examination today, and it was determined they are animal bones.

"No further information is available."
