Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle has reportedly applied for a minimum wage job as a cashier.

The 52-year-old millionaire singer spotted the job advert in the shop window of her local bookmakers in the Scottish town of Blackburn, The Sun reports.

She walked into the premises on Thursday afternoon and spent five minutes questioning the deputy manager about the $11.40-an-hour role.

"We were all in shock," said David Corr, deputy manager of Ladbrokes.

He told Boyle, who is estimated to be worth $38 million, that she would have to apply for the role online.

A gambler who witnessed the exchange said Boyle was dead serious about taking the job and speculated that she was looking for a way to mingle with her local community.

Boyle hurled to fame in 2009 with her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream.
