The driver of a Porsche Macan allegedly involved in a multi-vehicle crash and two carjackings on Queensland's Sunshine Coast today remains under police guard.

A 22-year-old woman from Upper Mount Gravatt was injured, and later died, after the Porsche crashed in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway at Palmview shortly after midday today.

Police have tonight confirmed the Porsche was not stolen and the driver, a 41-year-old man from Tewantin, was the registered owner.

He is tonight in hospital in a serious condition under police guard.

Police allege the man got out of the Porsche, approached a white SsangYong Rexton and shot the male driver in the arm.

He then allegedly stole the Rexton and fled the scene.

Police say he did not know the man he shot.

Police found the stolen Rexton rolled on its roof in Landsborough near Forestry Road about half an hour later.

The man then allegedly carjacked a grey Mazda 3 nearby that was being driven by a young male learner driver, under instruction from his parents.

Police say no shots were fired and the man fled in the Mazda before being arrested a short time later near Steve Irwin Way.

Police found the firearm allegedly used in the shooting inside the car.

Chief Inspector Jason Overland said the investigation would be complex, with three crime scenes to process, many witnesses, as well as dashcam footage.

"It's just terrible... resulted in the death of a young girl," Overland said.

"I've given up trying to work out why, it's just a tragedy and we're doing all that we can to address what's left.

"I'm not going to speculate on what causes people to do these things."

All lanes of the Bruce Highway have now reopened.
