A man has failed to rob a service station on the Sunshine Coast after a shop attendant refused his demands for cash.

CCTV shows the bandit enter the petrol station in Nambour at 2am armed with a knife and place a car battery in the doorway to prevent the door from closing.

He waited for customers to leave before demanding cash. When the shop attendant refused, he sprayed a propellant and set fire to items on the counter.
