Sydneysiders can look forward to warm long weekend with temperatures set to rise to 28 degrees. (AAP) 

Sydney can look forward to a long weekend at the beach, with the rain finally moving on and temperatures on the rise.

After a week of rain and cold mornings Sydney is set for temperatures as high as 27 degrees on Saturday before rising to 28 degrees on Sunday and Monday.

The wintry work week will be quickly forgotten as sports fan settle in for the AFL grand final on Saturday and the NRL grand final on Sunday while everyone else simply enjoys the lack of rain.

While some cloud cover is expected on Sunday and Monday, the temperature is only expected to keep increasing.

The weather is warming up across the country, with Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra all set to crack 30 degrees over the weekend.

This could be the beginning of what is suet to be a warm summer for Sydney, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting eastern Australia will experience moderate to high temperatures over the summer months.
