“Cairns has rooms for $176 per night on average.”

Accommodation in some major cities including Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth are also more affordable during this period because of the lack of business travellers.

“They’ve always got availability, Mr Long said.

He encouraged design lovers to snap up a deal at  Brisbane’s Hilton Hotel, which has slashed the price of their Guest Rooms from $365 to $165.

On the Gold Coast, Sandcastles Broadwater is offering a three-bedroom apartment for $305 per night.

For those yearning for an international trip, there are also a number of cruise specials.
