Six regional Queensland communities are in the running to get casinos.

Expressions of interest closed on Monday to build a gaming resort in Brisbane, and up to two in regional centres.

Six parties, including Echo Entertainment and Crown Resorts, have applied to develop the crowning jewel - Queen's Wharf, a massive Brisbane city revamp which comes with 700 metres of river frontage.

Another six want to build in the regions, including Airlie Beach, Proserpine, Yorkeys Knob, Great Keppel Island, as well as Nerang and Broadwater on the Gold Coast.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney will make a short-list in the coming months.

"It is clear that many share the Queensland government's decision to create world-class resort facilities that will provide thousands of jobs for Queenslanders and the economic boost for regional Queensland," he said.

"This will establish places which will be drawcards for Queensland."
