Girl reunited with her stolen puppy

A family in Melbourne's outer-east is elated their eight-week-old puppy has been returned after being stolen during a burglary.

The Wood family returned to their Croydon Hills home about 11.30am on Monday morning to find it had been broken into and their beloved Labrador pup Sasha had been snatched, in addition to electronics and jewellery.

Sasha's owner, Ryan Wood, told TODAY: "I can't believe it. It's really amazing."

"We had our fingers crossed, but we didn't want to get our hopes up. Then this morning my wife got up to make herself a coffee, walked past the sliding door and noticed that there was a figure moving by the kennel... Started screaming out and it was (Sasha)."

Mr Wood said the family believe the burglar "has a conscience" or "got scared".

"We don't care, to be honest. We're just happy to have her back," he said.

Mr Wood filmed the joyful reunion between the puppy and his four-year-old daughter, Maia, in which she picks the puppy up and covers it in kisses.

"They were both frantic, running around," Mr Wood said.

"Very happy to have her back."

Aside from her "new-found fascination with shoes," Sasha appears to be in good health.
