Two men arrested after allegedly stolen car crashes into Adelaide power pole

Two men have been arrested after an allegedly stolen car crashed into a power pole in the Adelaide suburb of Northfield.

The Holden sedan crashed into the pole on Grand Junction Road just after 1pm, bringing down power lines. 

Police had tracked it from the air for 40 minutes, and say the car drove for several kilometres after road spikes blew out its tyres.

The men, aged 26 and 27, were arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.  

"I'm surprised that no one in the offending vehicle has been more seriously injured," Superintendent John Bruhn told reporters.

"[It was] a big risk with the ends of those [power lines] being live, so the occupants were advised to stay in the vehicle."

Officers called to the scene realised the vehicle was stolen.

The car's owners have told 9NEWS it was stolen at 10.30am in Northgate, with one man allegedly threatening a woman with a hammer while two others broke into the vehicle.

"I saw a blue car pull up in the middle of the road and as I turned around and looked through the other side of the window, there was one boy there, smashing my son's back window," a woman, who only wished to be known as Melissa, told 9NEWS. 

Police believe another stolen car was used in the robbery.

Police closed Grand Junction Road between Sudholz Road and Fosters Road, and urged motorists to take alternate routes after the crash.
