Stephen Dank warns shooting attacker ‘fear tactics will backfire’

Sport scientist Stephen Dank has returned to his Melbourne home, as investigations into a targeted shooting attack continue.

Mr Dank returned to his Ascot Vale townhouse this afternoon, after bullets were sprayed into the home in the early hours of yesterday morning.

In a statement today, Mr Dank said his attacker’s actions will “backfire”.   

“They should know that fear tactics will backfire. I will not be intimidated,” Mr Dank said.

“I will cooperate with the authorities investigating this cowardly attack.”

9NEWS has been told Mr Dank has been in contact with ASADA and the AFL in recent weeks.

Ballistic experts believe the shooting was conducted at close-range, with the offender most likely to have been on foot.

Mr Dank, 52, suffered a broken nose and grazed forehead when the shots were fired about 2.20am yesterday, and his wife, who was upstairs at the time, phoned Triple Zero.

Yesterday, Mr Dank said the attack would not silence him.

“I will say I will not be silenced or bullied and will continue in my attempt to put the truth out there,” he said.

Mr Dank was treated at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after the shooting, and later cancelled a commitment to speak at a football event in Bendigo.

Mr Dank was at the centre of the Essendon and Cronulla Sharks supplements scandals, which saw 34 past and present Bombers players banned for a year.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport found Mr Dank had intentionally used the players for the purpose of "chemical experimentation".
