Flight school grounds all planes after Stawell crash

The flight school that owns the plane that crashed in regional Victoria injuring two men, one critically, has grounded its entire fleet.

Soar Aviation in Moorabbin made the decision to ground all of its fleet across all bases as part of a “comprehensive emergency response” to the crash.

“Soar Aviation’s priority is the safety and security of our employees, students, visitors, and those involved in the incident,” the company said in a statement.

A man in his 40s is still fighting for life after the light plane crashed near Stawell at 12:30pm today.

Another man, also in his 40s, has tonight had his condition downgraded from serious to stable.

The pair were airlifted to hospital once crews finally reached them this afternoon. It took emergency services 30 minutes to get through the rough terrain.

It’s not clear what caused the plane to crash.

A witness told 9NEWS he saw the plane “floating like a leaf in the air towards the ground before falling behind a set of trees.”
