SIX SRI LANKAN ASYLUM-SEEKER BOATS INTERCEPTED SINCE MAY

May 11: First asylum-seeker boat departs Sri Lanka before being intercepted by Australian authorities, with 20 Sri Lankans on board returned on May 29.

May 15: Sri Lankan officials disrupted a people-smuggling venture before it could take to sea.

May 23: An asylum-seeker vessel bound for Australia broke down, with Sri Lankan navy officers rescuing all 41 people on board and returning them to Galle.

June 28: A boat from Sri Lanka was stopped by Australian authorities, with all five people on board returned on July 23.

August 7: A vessel was intercepted in waters off Christmas island, with the 14 people on board returned to Sri Lanka on August 16.

August 17-20: Sri Lankan authorities disrupted a people-smuggling vessel before it could take to sea, preventing the departure of 22 asylum seekers, and arresting one person for allegedly organising the venture.
