Large sperm whale carcass found on Tasmanian beach
A dead sperm whale has washed up on a beach near Cloudy Bay on South Bruny Island in Tasmania.
Blood from the whale had spilled out onto the sand.
Marine Conservation Program staff were at the beach to collect samples and conduct a postmortem examination on the whale.

The cause of death or how the whale washed up on the beach remains unknown.
The whale was 18 metres in length and estimated to weigh over 40 tonnes.
Conservation staff said because of the enormity of its size and its current position, they're unsure of how to move the carcass at this stage.
The public have been told to keep away from the carcass.
It is illegal to interfere, or take parts from a dead whale.
