Spearfisher comes forward after floating gear sparks aerial search on NSW South Coast
Fears a spearfisher may have drowned after a collection of fishing equipment was found floating in waters off a NSW South Coast beach have been dispelled, with the owner of the mystery gear coming forward this afternoon.
The equipment was pulled in by a fisherman from six-metre deep water approximately 100 metres off Narrawallee Beach Headland, just north of Mollymook Beach at around 3pm yesterday.
A police helicopter was sent out to search the land and sea around Narrawallee Beach Headland, north of Mollymook Beach, at 10am today in an attempt to locate their owner.
Among the spearfishing equipment found off Narrawallee Beach Headland on the NSW South Coast was a spearfishing gun, red crocs and a Go-Pro with an orange Adreno Spear Master buoy attached. NSW Police
Among the items were a Green Typhoon rail gun and spear, a Go-Pro camera, an Ocean Hunter black fishing bag, black LED torch and red croc-style shoes.
Following a public appeal by police, a 30-year-old man from Roseville contacted police and identified himself as the owner of the gear.
As no missing persons reports relating to a spearfisher in the area have been filed, police have ended their search and completed their investigation.
