Thousands left without power in SA again after extreme winds

A severe weather warning has been cancelled for parts of South Australia as damaging northerly winds cut power to thousands of properties.

Gusts of 113 km/h were recorded at Port Pirie ahead of a complex low-pressure system that swept in from the southwest bringing rain and average winds of up to 93 km/h.

The winds cut power to more than 25,000 homes and businesses across Adelaide.

Traffic lights at a number of major intersections were also out.

The gusts peeled off roofs and solar panels and sent debris flying.

The State Emergency Service said it had responded to 134 incidents yesterday including a number of downed trees.

More rain is forecast for today.
