Dashcam footage captures terrifying moment a towbar flies off ute and smashes into another car
Dashcam footage has captured the moment a 10kg steel towbar flew off a ute and smashed into the windscreen of another vehicle in South Australia.
Michael Allison was behind the wheel of the trailing car when the ute's towbar came loose near the Hahndorf exit on Thursday.
"It happened at such speed and the impact was, wow, massive really," Mr Allison said.

"[It] came right the way through, hit the back seat, then bounced back through onto the centre console and ended up resting at the bottom of my feet on the driver's side."
Mr Allison said he was covered in glass, but was able to quickly pull over.

He feels lucky he hadn't been seriously injured or even killed.
"Just so lucky that didn't happen a little bit further onto the driver's side," he said.
The ute kept going, but Mr Allison said he thinks the other driver had no idea what had happened.
South Australia Police are urging all motorists to make sure their vehicles are properly secured so that no objects can fly off. 9News
South Australia police said loose items can easily become dangerous projectiles and cause crashes on roads.
They're urging all drivers to check their vehicles to make sure they are secure.
