South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas announces surprise cabinet reshuffle after landslide election win

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has unveiled some shock changes in his new-look cabinet, as he attempts to kick-start his second term following a landslide election victory.

Chris Picton has been taken off the challenging health portfolio and moved to a new role.

Blair Boyer, who is taking over Picton's former remit says he's thrilled despite leaving behind his beloved education portfolio in the process.

"There is no better portfolio than health that allows you to go and change peoples lives and make a difference," he said.

Two members of the fresh ministry have only just been elected to Parliament.

Malinauskas unveiled his new team just days into his second term.

"We have moved very quickly," he said.

"After every election there is an opportunity to renew and refresh and that's what we have done."

Outer ministry members Michael Brown and Nadia Clancy have been promoted to the frontbench, as has backbencher Sarah Andrews.

Alice Rolls, who is just days into her political career, is now a frontbencher as the minister for child protection and domestic violence.

Alice Rolls is the first new MP to swoop straight into cabinet since Stephen Mullighan in 2018, acknowledging today she is taking on a tough role.

"It's daunting ... the last 24 hours have been really overwhelming but I'm going to take one step at a time," Rolls said.

Soon after the ceremony, the premier wasted no time enacting an election commitment and removing stamp duty for downsizers aged 60 and over on new builds up to $2 million.
