A 21-year-old Sunshine Coast soldier who died during a training exercise at Shoalwater Bay, near Rockhampton, will be farewelled at a funeral today.

His funeral procession will be led by a riderless horse with stirrups reversed - a symbol of respect and mourning for fallen members of Light Horse units - the Department of Defence has advised.

Mr Reddan's family will release a statement later today, but has asked for privacy.

He was killed by a falling tree branch during the training exercise on Thursday, May 4.

A week later, Private Jason Challis was shot dead during live fire training in the Northern Territory.
