Tourist dies after snorkelling incident on charter boat at Tumby Bay

A snorkeller has died after being pulled unresponsive from the water on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

The 41-year-old woman, an international tourist, was on a swimming with sea lions tour with Adventure Bay Charters when she got into trouble in the water at Tumby Bay just before 11am.

She was unconscious when pulled from the water by crew, who worked to try to save her during the hour-long journey back to land.

Paramedics were waiting for the vessel at the Tumby Bay Boat Ramp and the woman was rushed to hospital, but she later died.

Police today interviewed other tourists on board and the charter’s shocked crew.

The charter company is expected to operate as usual tomorrow.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
