Snakes pops up on Queensland woman's windscreen

A snake hitching a ride in a Queensland woman’s car gave her the fright of her life when it suddenly reared its head in front of the windscreen while she was driving at 110km/h.

Tamara Duff first saw the red-bellied snake slide under her car when she was filling up with petrol on her way to work on the Sunshine Coast yesterday.

As she was running late for work she decided to risk it and get in the car anyway.

Ms Duff was driving down the Bruce Highway at Forrest Glen a short time later when the snake reappeared again.

“It popped its head up on my windscreen, had a bit of a look about. I screamed,” Ms Duff said.

Ms Duff said she panicked and swerved “quite a lot”.

“I was in the overtaking lane so everyone probably thought I was mad.”

Luckily, Ms Duff managed to pull over safely and call local snake catcher Richie Gilbert.

Video shows Mr Gilbert pulling the writhing 1.2m red-bellied black snake from out of the car bonnet.

Apart from being a bit overheated, the snake emerged from the incident unharmed, and was later released by Mr Gilbert.
