Heart-stopping moment toddler is thrown from pram after car slams into pedestrians

Video has emerged of the shocking moment an out-of-control car ploughed into pedestrians at a busy Sydney shopping strip on the weekend.

CCTV showed the white Mitsubishi mounting the curb and hitting a pram, launching a 16-month old girl into the air at the intersection of Anderson Street and Victoria Avenue in Chatswood.

Her mother can be seen scrambling to assist the toddler, as another man can also be seen falling to the ground from the force of the car.

The child was among five people were taken to hospital following the incident on Saturday, which is believed to have been triggered when the male driver suffered a medical episode.

His licence has since been revoked, as police investigations continue.

Two people, including a 22-year-old woman, remain in a serious condition at Royal North Shore Hospital.

In the moments after the crash, witnesses described scenes of “chaos”.

“I just saw the car just run off the street and then it hit two or three guys,” one witness told 9NEWS.

“There was someone screaming as well.”

“I said ‘Oh my god, you know what happened in Barcelona, that’s happening now.”

Officers quickly confirmed the incident was not terror-related.
