Six children escape Sydney house fire

Six children escaped a house fire in Sydney's south-west early today, after the eldest child raised the alarm. 

The 14-year-old contacted an older male relative who was away from the home for help, after a heater caught fire in the front bedroom of the property on Edensor Road in Cabramatta West. 

The 22-year-old man rushed to the home to help, but came into contact with live wires as he approached and suffered an electric shock. 

The children, aged between one and 14, had fled the property when emergency services arrived about 12.40am.

Firefighters found the property well alight and extinguished the blaze, but parts of the home were damaged.

The 22-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Three of the children - aged one, 10 and 14 - were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the same hospital as a precaution.

Authorities are not treating the fire as suspicious.
