Hundreds farewell ‘Australian great’ Sir Nicholas Shehadie
Sydney’s great and good have gathered in good numbers to farewell Australian rugby great Sir Nicholas Shehadie.
The former Wallabies captain, who was also a former chairman of SBS, died in hospital last week, aged 92.
His wife, former state governor Dame Marie Bashir, was today joined by family and friends from all walks of life, including former prime ministers, sports stars and media personalities, at a ceremony at St James Church.
Sir Nicholas was today remembered as a loving father and husband, and an Australian great.
Former prime ministers John Howard, Paul Keating and Bob Hawke attended the service alongside former rivals and NSW premiers Mike Baird and Kristina Keneally.
Walalbies coach Michael Cheika and radio host Alan Jones were also in attendance, joining the crowds which spilled out onto King Street.
