Melbourne family targeted by gunmen

Two gunmen armed with shotguns have fired at a Melbourne home while four people slept inside in the third attack targeting the family this year.

The men fired shots near the front door of the Kew home as the family slept early on Monday morning, the second shooting at the house.

A third man may have been waiting as the getaway driver, police say.

The family previously ran a small goods business and are not known to police.

Detective Inspector Jason Kelly said police believe the family is being targeted but they don't know why.

"This appears to be a targeted attack, it is not something random," Det Insp Kelly told reporters.

"Detectives are working through possible motives. At this stage it is too early to say what the motive is."

Shots were also fired at the house in February while a car was set alight in May.

CCTV at the house caught the latest attack on camera but police have been unable to identify the men or car involved in the shooting.
