Shots fired at home in Sydney's west

Shots have been fired into a car and a gatepost at a western Sydney home in what police say was a targeted attack, possibly gang related.

Police say a husband and wife and their adult daughter were in their Auburn home at the time but no one was injured when the shots were fired shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman told AAP the occupants were known to police but she could not confirm reports a senior Brothers for Life gang member lived at the property.

"Gang links are obviously one of the lines of inquiry," she said.

A crime scene has been established and forensics officers are examining the scene.
