Armed robbers fire gunshot following brazen Sydney armed robbery

Two men are on the run after firing a gunshot as they fled from a brazen armed robbery in the Sydney suburb of Paddington.

The pair entered a newsagency on Oxford Street just after 5.30am today, threatened the male attendant and stole cash and a mobile phone.

The worker, Sam, bravely pursued the men down the iconic shopping strip onto William Street but was forced to give up the pursuit after one of the men fired a gun in his direction.

The men were caught on CCTV speeding the wrong way up nearby Victoria Street in a white or silver sedan.

Nearby cafe owner Assia Brensein ran to help, finding the victim uninjured but shaken.

“He was shaking, hysterical and screaming,” Mr Brensein said.

“[He said], ‘I've been robbed all my money is gone’.”

The offenders are described as Pacific Islander or Maori appearance and both were wearing dark hooded jumpers.
