Shorten still wobbling says Cormann

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has accused Opposition Leader Bill Shorten of continuing to "wibble and wobble" on whether Labor will support the government's $6.5 billion in budget savings.

Senator Cormann said he listened carefully to Mr Shorten when he spoke at the National Press Club on Wednesday and he wasn't able to give a straight answer on Labor's position on budget savings.

"There was more wibble and wobble and more wibble and wobble and he is still not giving the Australian people a straight answer," he said on Sky News.

The government has identified a range of budget savings on which Labor indicated its support during the election. It's proposing to legislate all of those in a single omnibus bill early in the new parliament.

"The first thing we should do is implement swiftly the savings that we all agree on," Senator Cormann said.
