Shorten should disown CFMEU: minister

A minister has urged federal Labor to condemn the CFMEU for criticising the police over a raid on its Canberra headquarters.

The union said the action on Tuesday, in which a large amount of computer files and hardware was seized in connection to court proceedings following royal commission investigations, smacked of overkill and a waste of police resources.

But Employment Minister Eric Abetz on Thursday described the CFMEU's attempt to attack the integrity of police as "desperate", calling on Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and the Labor party to repudiate the smears.
