Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says he'd like to have regular meetings with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Mr Shorten said so far he has had one meeting with Mr Turnbull, discussing constitutional recognition of indigenous people which should remain a high priority, along with family violence and climate change.

"I am keen to actually try and pin Malcolm down to have regular meetings," he told ABC radio.

"I think it is important. Australians would expect the leader of the government and the leader of opposition to talk on a sensible regular basis and I am going to try and see if Malcolm is interested in that."
