Shorten picks Fawkner for Cup

Federal opposition leader Bill Shorten hopes the Melbourne Cup will stay in Australia after tipping local stayer Fawkner to win the $6 million race.
Fawkner is gaining late support among punters, with owner Nick Williams calling on the nation to get behind the Australian-owned, Australian-reared and Australian-trained seven-year-old.
It is one of only two Australian horses in a field dominated by foreign raiders.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has tipped Irish-bred but locally-trained Signoff to win the cup.
The Darren Weir-trained five-year-old secured the final place in the field after winning the Lexus Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
