Shorten flies to US to hold MH17 talks

Opposition leader Bill Shorten will join the push for an independent investigation at the crash site of MH17 when he travels to Washington to hold talks with US leaders.
Mr Shorten will meet with US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in the US capital to discuss the situation in the Ukraine and Vice-President Joe Biden to talk security.
He will also be briefed on efforts to secure binding resolution at the UN Security Council for an investigation in New York, where Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is headed.
Ms Bishop will spearhead the campaign for an independent investigation into the disaster which claimed almost 300 lives - including at least 36 Australian citizens and permanent residents.
Mr Shorten's meetings fit in around his participation in the 22nd Australian-American Leadership Dialogue.
