Man dead in shooting in Sydney's west

Police are continuing their investigation after a man was shot dead in Sydney's inner west last night.

At 5.40pm, a man was shot a number of times on Lords Road in Leichhardt.

Paramedics attempted to revive the man, believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s, but he was pronounced dead later.

Police have established a crime scene which will be attended by specialist forensic officers.

Nobody has yet been arrested.

A local man who only wished to be identified as Rob was nearby when the shooting occurred.

He said the incident wasn’t an isolated one.

“There was a shooting up on the crest of the hill [in the past], so it’s not completely unknown,” he told 9NEWS, adding that he’d lived in the area since 1988.

He lamented the rise in gun violence in suburban streets.

“I think these things are completely random, it doesn’t matter where you are,” he said.

“With guns around the place, people just shoot wherever they want to.

“I don’t feel unsafe in Leichhardt, but your chances are no better or worse than anywhere else.”
